May 2nd, 2011

Dear everybody,

This week I have continued to read The Godfather. I have also begun reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Since The Godfather is by far the better and more exciting book, I'm going to use it for this assignment.

If I were to make The Godfather into a movie(which already happened), the four most important characters would be Don Corleone,Luca Brasi(the Don's top and most loyal hitman), Sonny Corleone(the Don's son), and Sollozzo(the Turkish guy.) Although Luca Brasi dies relatively early in the book, I think that he could become a pretty major character in a movie. Besides, he's pretty awesome in the situations in which he is included in the book, so he would definately deserve a part in a real movie.

To start off, I would have Arnold Schwarzenegger play the Don. I would do this because Arnold Schwarzenegger can be tough and serious in movies. He is also an amazing actor(The Terminator proves it), and I think that he would be a great fit for playing a serious, dark, and tough character like the Don. I would have Luca Brasi played by Harrison Ford. At first I thought that Arnold Schwarzenegger would kill at this role, but then I realized that Luca isn't really huge and tough, he's sly, deadly, and not all that huge. That's why Harrison Ford would be great for this role. While he may not appear as the most threatening actor that you can think of, Harrison Ford has got all of the skills necessary to play someone like a sly murderer(Indiana Jones may not be a murderer, but slyness is part of what made him so good in the movies.) That's why he would be so successful at this role. Sollozzo would also have to be played be someone who could be sly, but more or less serious with the ability to play the role of a bad guy really well. That's why I would pick Samuel L. Jackson to play Sollozzo. Jackson has played a lot of different roles, but he has a lot of experience playing action heros and bad guys, such as in Die Hard: With a Vengeance. Obviously, Jackson would be a great choice to play Sollozzo.

It's a tough choice to choose who would play Sonny Corleone in a movie. In the end, I think that the closest match might just be John Belushi. Overall, Sonny makes a lot of mistakes(one in particular that lead to his father being shot), but at the same time messes around and takes part in various activities that may not be considered "school appropriate." Given these characteristics, I think that Belushi could fit this part very well given his performance in movies such as Animal House. Although Sonny can be serious at times, which is not something that John Belushi is known for doing, I think that Belushi could handle this type of task and play the role well.
Currently, I am still at twenty-eight books, but The Godfather and Fahrenheit 451 will count as multiple books.

  4. If you liked "Fahrenheit 451" you should try '1984' by George Orwell.
