May 9th, 2011

Dear everybody,

There are a couple of different characters that I might consider to by my least favorite character in a book that I've read this year, but no character nor book can possibly beat the amount of hate that I have for The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder. I already wrote a whole journal entry on how bad the book was at the beginning of the year, so I'll just have to cut it short and say that this book is just plain TRASH. And so is the main character. I forget what his name was, and the book is currently in possession of my younger brother who wanted to experience just how bad it was, so I can't really describe him other than that he was a brother in a village in Peru. I hate him so badly because, first off, he only appeared in about twenty pages in the whole book. That's it. It was so stupid I can't describe it. You meet him at the beginning of the book, and then you have no clue what happened to him until the very end, when you find out that he was burned at the stake for researching the lives of the five people who died when the Bridge of San Luis Rey snapped(these actions were considered(Satanist.) He didn't really have a point, in reality. And what about a Brother, especially the main character, being burned at the stake "just 'cause?" How low do you get? He doesn't even try to save himself? Honestly. He was a loser and pathetic at that. Except that he was a Catholic Brother. But he ruins the reputation of Catholic Brothers as well.

Anyway, my favorite character I have met this year was Don Corleone from The Godfather. I know that I have talked about The Godfather in most of the blog posts that I have posted, but the book was just THAT GOOD. Anyway, the Don has to be my most favorite character in all of the books that I have read because he's really cool. He always gets the job done in his mafia buisness and sometimes even does it personally. He's also can be really threatening and has guts, so he performs tasks that other people wouldn't have the guts to accomplish. It's because of these traits that the Don is my most favorite character in all of the books that I have read this year, and it's what makes him such an awesome guy. My decision was pretty close between him and Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter books, though. He was pretty cool, too.

Right now, I have finished reading Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. I am currently finishing up The Godfather by Mario Puzo and I am starting Friday Night Lights by H.G. Bissinger. I have read twenty-nine books. Farewell.
